Here are a few tidbits about Halo 3: Recon that have been floating around. Viewers are advised to take the information dump with a couple of vodka shots and a pinch of lime and salt:
Halo 3: Recon remains a first person shooter. Luke smith was absolutely right on not calling it by other names.
Although Bungie’s Joe Staten states that “we do not view this as a $60 title” and most players already know the game lasts only for 3-5 hours depending on the difficulty, Microsoft might be planning to release the maps on Live at a price for the hardcore multiplayer enthusiasts.
The character’s travelogue rests around New Mombosa only. There is no visitation right to any Halo rings, which is strictly confined to Master Chief and his hibernation with Cortana. Recon portrays a remnant universe which is gritty, dark and somber caused by the destruction that has engulfed the city.
Halo 3: Recon has been in development since late December 2007, they had a playable build of the game which lasted for a good half an hour in February for MS executives.
The engine is being upgraded to incorporate stealth, the physics engine is also being tinkered around with. Do not expect huge vehicular sequences in the game.
The character uses night / heat vision to avoid direct confrontation making the game a bit tighter and tactical than the open ended nature of the previous versions.
The game can be best described as something similar to the first expansion pack to the original Half Life, titled Opposing Force and Blue Shift.
Will the festivities finally begin once again for the hardcore Halo fanatics, this is a question that 2009 shall be able to answer.
